Weave of Heritage

Untuk acara ini, kami ingin membawa sedikit cerita tentang Indonesia ke dalam ruang tersebut.

Venue-nya sendiri berbentuk hanggar besar, tinggi, dan sangat terbuka. Dalam ruang seperti ini, penting menciptakan satu focal point yang bisa menarik mata ke atas. Karena itu kami membuat instalasi besar dari anyaman janur sebagai elemen penyambut tamu.

Untuk table setting, karena makan malam disajikan family style, setiap rangkaian dibuat berbeda satu sama lain. Tidak ada dua yang sama. Tinggi, bentuk, dan komposisinya bervariasi, namun tetap menggunakan material dan palet yang sama sehingga masih terasa dalam satu bahasa visual.

Sedikit refleksi tentang Indonesia sendiri:
beragam, namun tetap terhubung.

Para tamu juga disuguhkan hidangan khas Indonesia dari Kaum Restaurant, dan membawa pulang angklung sebagai souvenir alat musik tradisional bambu yang menjadi bagian dari warisan budaya kita.

Preparation untuk proyek ini memakan waktu sekitar satu bulan untuk konsep dan pemilihan bahan, lalu sekitar satu minggu untuk produksi seluruh instalasi dan rangkaian bunga.

I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to present a small piece of Indonesian heritage on an international stage.

This annual gala has travelled the world, Paris two years ago, Bangkok last year and this year Indonesia had the honor of hosting.

The idea began with weaving.

For me, Indonesian craft has always lived quietly inside our floral language. Since the early days of Blooming Elise, we’ve been drawn to palm weaving and the sculptural beauty of janur. It felt natural to let that heritage lead the design.

When the client simply said, “Create whatever you want,” it felt less like freedom and more like responsibility the kind that humbles you.

So we did what we always try to do:
bring Indonesian craftsmanship into a contemporary space, in our own way.

Part II soon where I’ll share more about the materials and the thinking behind the composition.

Kali ini aku berkesempatan ngobrol bareng @trishaliawatii from @baletonflowerchef tentang double discrimination yg kita alamin pada saat jadi florist.

‘Oh florist? Itu kerjaan istri yang rugi ya?”

Menarik.

Karena yang sering terjadi bukan sekadar komentar iseng.
Itu bentuk undervaluation of creative labor —
meremehkan bisnis berbasis seni karena dianggap cuma hobi.

Padahal florist adalah perishable industry.
Produk hidup. Risiko tinggi. Margin presisi.
Forecast salah sedikit, rugi nyata.
Salah suhu, salah timing, salah hitung costing — dampaknya langsung ke cashflow.

Dan ketika bisnis kreatif ini dijalankan perempuan,
muncul lapisan kedua: gender bias dalam kewirausahaan.

Seolah:
kalau untung → ya biasa.
kalau minus → pasti dibiayai suami.

Itu yang disebut double discrimination.

Diremehkan karena berbasis seni.
Diremehkan karena dijalankan perempuan.

Florist bukan hobi mahal.
Ini strategi, manajemen, tenaga fisik, dan keputusan cepat dalam tekanan waktu.

Art has value.
Business has structure.
And we build both.
